After serving in the United States Air Force, Clare began his professional career at CoorsTek, a manufacturer of technical ceramics. During his twenty year tenure, Clare managed production and sales, and served as the chairman of the board of CoorsTek’s Singapore division, which manufactured semiconductor packages. Following CoorsTek, Clare co-founded Materia Ventures, a venture capital firm funded by 3M, Dow-Corning, Lord Corporation, and Lubrizol. At Materia Ventures, Clare led investments in early stage companies focused on advanced materials manufacturing technologies. Clare is currently a member of the External Advisory Board to the Materials Science and Engineering Department at the University of Washington. Clare is an advisor to EnerG2, an energy storage materials company, and also serves on the Advisory Board of Qualco Energy, a bio-gas power generation company. Recently, Clare served as a Commissioner of the Port of Seattle. Clare holds a B.S. in Ceramic Engineering from the University of Washington and an MBA from the University of Denver.
